Hygrothermal characterization of rammed earth according to humidity variations

چکیده

Rammed earth construction is built by compacting humid soil into formworks layer layer, using clay fraction as only binder between the grains, without firing procedure. At this stage, material unsaturated, and capillary forces thus act to add cohesion particles. Indeed, a peculiarity of its high hygroscopic capacity, which allows water vapor be absorbed desorbed matrix. The variation hydric state in leads variety mechanical thermal properties. Consequently, complexity studying due strong dependence many parameters on moisture content still few data are available literature subject for rammed materials. A used an existing building Lyon here characterized order determine hygrothermal Earth conductivity was firstly reference dry state, then influence humidity variations investigated. Sorption desorption isotherms were determined investigate ability store release humidity. Thermal conductivities measured at different relative humidity, put evidence environmental conditions.

First Exploratory Study on the Ageing of Rammed Earth Material

Rammed earth (RE) is attracting renewed interest throughout the world thanks to its "green" characteristics in the context of sustainable building. In this study, the ageing effects on RE material are studied on the walls which have been constructed and exposed for 22 years to natural weathering. First, mechanical characteristics of the "old" walls were determined by two approaches: in-situ dyn...

Assessing the Rebound Hammer Test for Rammed Earth Material

Rammed-earth (RE) is a construction material manufactured from the soil. The soil is compacted at its optimum water content, inside a formwork to build a monolithic wall. RE material is attracting renewed interest throughout the world thanks to its sustainable characteristics: low embodied energy, substantial thermal inertia, and natural regulator of moisture; on the other hand, the existing hi...

A Procedure to Measure the in-Situ Hygrothermal Behavior of Earth Walls

Rammed earth is a sustainable material with low embodied energy. However, its development as a building material requires a better evaluation of its moisture-thermal buffering abilities and its mechanical behavior. Both of these properties are known to strongly depend on the amount of water contained in wall pores and its evolution. Thus the aim of this paper is to present a procedure to measur...

Dynamic effect of metro-induced vibration on the rammed earth base of the Bell Tower

Xi'an Bell Tower (the Bell Tower) is a state-level ancient relic in China. The vibration caused by metro will exert adverse effect on the Bell Tower. This paper aims at presenting 3D-FEM models to predict the peak period velocity (PPV) of rammed earth base when the metro passing through the Bell Tower. The calculation results are compared with those of field test. Both results were found to be ...
